Faced with hatred
Dominique Schnapper's reaction to events in Israel and France
On 7 and 8 October, we were horrified to witness the abominable acts perpetrated by Hamas in Israel, reminiscent on a tenfold scale of the pogroms committed in the Russian Empire that shocked the world at the beginning of the 20th century.
Last Friday, France was also hit at the heart of its republican school: after Samuel Paty in 2020 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Dominique Bernard died in Arras at the hands of an Islamic terrorist.
Many of you have asked us about the mahJ's attitude in these tragic circumstances.
First of all, our thoughts are with all those, in Israel and in France, whose loved ones have been affected by these events. Our thoughts also go out to the entire French educational community, with which the museum team works closely.
In the face of violence and hatred, the museum's response will be, more than ever, not to give up on its mission to educate people about citizenship and the fight against anti-Semitism.
With reinforced security measures, the museum remains open and welcomes you.
Dominique Schnapper, President of the mahJ
