Who are we?

Founded as a state-approved non-profit organisation, the Musée d’art et d’histoire du Judaïsme (mahJ) opened in 1998 with the support of the City of Paris and the State.

It is considered as « Musée de France », a name given to  “any permanent collection consisting of property whose preservation and presentation are in the public interest and organized for the purpose of public knowledge, education and enjoyment”. The museum owner of such a collection must also meet specific criteria to obtain this designation described in the law of 4 January 2002.
